FIFA World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious tournament in international football. The World Cup is hosted every four years and is currently contested between 32 nations. However, the 2026 World Cup will see 48 countries qualify for the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup involves countries from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America.

As one of the biggest tournaments in world football, the FIFA World Cup is watched by football fans worldwide. The 2018 World Cup in Russia was seen by over 3.57 billion people worldwide.

It may still be a few years away, but the 2026 World Cup is already getting us all very excited. It may be something to do with the recent Women’s World Cup being such a roaring success. Or it could just be that the new season has just begun and we are all still naively hopeful for the new campaign.

ⓘ Uruguay was the first country to host the FIFA World Cup in 1930 and also became the first nation to win the tournament.

ⓘ The original FIFA World Cup trophy was named after former FIFA President Jules Rimet. Ahead of the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England, the Jules Rimet trophy was stolen whilst on display in London. It was discovered seven days later by a dog called Pickles underneath a hedge in southeast London.
