What are the rules of 5 a side football?

  • 5aside.com™ rules can be found here
  • Our common sense rules are designed to maximise football time and keep goalkeepers involved (does your keeper fancy himself as a bit of a Pirlo?)

How much does 5 a side cost to play?

  • Match fees vary, but a typical cost is £9 per match per player
  • No joining fees or hidden costs

How do the 5 a side leagues work?

  • Teams sign up for a season

  • Teams will play every week unless they have a rest week (rest weeks only applicable in some leagues)

Can company and office teams enter the league?

  • Many teams have their company’s HR dept subsidise or pay team fees under ‘team building/wellbeing’ etc – Quite rightly too! (study after study shows that team sports such as 5aside football improve people’s physical and mental health- see here: https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-benefits-sports#sleep) 🙏
  • If you’re an office/company team, we can create an invoice for you 🙌

Is rubber crumb used on 3G pitches safe?

  • The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) found no reason to advise people against playing sport on 3G pitches with rubber crumb. See more on this report here

The weather is bad – is our match on?

One of the things that has made football so enduring around the world is that you can play in all sorts of conditions. All our venues have ‘all-weather’ pitches, so your game will be on unless:

  • The transport network is significantly affected by weather or accident
  • The venue is closed due to adverse weather or other conditions

On the rare occasion that the decision to postpone a match days fixtures, your league manager will send an email out to the teams that are affected via the email address(s) we have of players/teams. Please bear in mind that the issues for postponing are often fluid situations, so decisions are only made when we can be quite sure that the issue will remain.

Do players need to wear shin pads at 5aside.com™ leagues?

The safety of our players is very important to us, so all players MUST wear shin pads/guards

There’s a problem on the transport network – are games on?

Players get to the venues in all sorts of ways, so an issue on your particular route will not necessarily affect others. However, there are rare occasions where it makes sense for all concerned for a match day of fixtures to be postponed. The following are examples of potential reasons for this:

  • There is a strike affecting all of the local transport network across all forms of transport
  • The whole transport network is significantly affected by weather or accident

Always assume that games will be on. Decisions on a postponement will be made on the morning of the matches*. Your league manager will send an email out to the teams that are affected via the email address(s) we have of players/teams.
*Please bear in mind that the issues for postponing are often fluid situations, so decisions are only made when we can be quite sure that the issue will remain.
